Ordinance on National Food and Nutrition Policy

Summary:

This ordinance establishes guidelines for improve food conditions, nutrition and health of the Brazilian population aimed at promoting adequate and healthy food practices, food surveillance and nutrition, preventing and caring of diseases related to food and nutrition.

Description:

  • It seeks to strengthen, respect and promote the autonomy of individuals; the diversity and food culture; the food as an element of humanization of health practices; the social determination and the intersectoral nature of food and nutrition environments; the sovereignty of food and nutrition security (section 3).
  • It highlights the need to monitore the quality of food; advertising and food advertising; and communication and interaction channels with consumers (section 4.7).
  • It states that food nutrition labeling constitutes the main instrument to improve the right to information (section 4.7).
