National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Overweight, Obesity and Diabetes

Objectives:

The strategy arises due to the magnitude and frequency with which the population suffers from overweight, obesity, and other NCDs, which cause very high levels of expenditure in the health system.

Scope:

  • The main actions to be carried out by the strategy are health promotion, disease prevention; medical care; health regulation, and fiscal policy.
  • The guiding axes: research and scientific evidence; co-responsibility; transversality; intersectoral actions; impact assessment; accountability.
  • Among the specific points to be carried out, the Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy, is in charge of establishing frontal labeling for food and beverages that meets specific requirements.
  • Statistics are shown, the background of the strategy is exposed, and Mexican regulations on which the measures are supported/complemented.
