Amendments to the General Health Law – Advertising (2014)

Summary:

To restrict advertising of prepackaged foods and beverages in order to protect public health and the best interest of the child.

Description:

This decree amends the General Health Law of 1984 (in Spanish, “Ley General de la Salud”) to add provisions on advertising of unhealthy foods.

It establishes that prepackaged foods and beverages can be marketed on television only if they comply with the criteria established by the Ministry of Health through the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks [Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios, COFEPRIS]. (Art. 22bis)
