Food and Drugs Act

Summary:

This law is the general law on food, drugs, cosmetics, and devices in Jamaica.

Description:

The law introduces several regulations. With respect to diet-related NCD prevention, it:

  • prohibits advertisements and the sale of any food to the general public for the treatment, prevention or cure of diseases, disorders or abnormal physical states mentioned in the First Schedule to the Act (section 3). That Schedule includes various non-communicable diseases, such as cancers, diabetes and heart diseases (First Schedule).
  • addresses the labeling and packaging of food (section 6).
