Food Based Dietary Guidelines for Jamaica (2015)

The Food Based Dietary Guidelines for Jamaica aims to promote healthy behaviors and practices that will help the population aged two years and older to make healthy food choices.

Description:

These guidelines include eight key messages for healthy eating and physical activity, namely:

  1. Eat a variety of foods from all the food groups daily;
  2. Eat a variety of fruits daily;
  3. Eat a variety of vegetables daily;
  4. Include peas, beans and nuts in your daily meals;
  5. Reduce intake of salty and processed foods;
  6. Reduce intake of fats and oils;
  7. Reduce intake of sugary foods and drinks;
  8. Make physical activity a part of your daily routine.

The documento also gives tips on how to prepare and eat different types of fresh foods, such as fruits, vegetables beans and nuts. Moreover, it recommends to reduce the intake of the salty and processed foods, fats and oils, and sugary foods and drinks. Regarding to those, it also provides tips on how to do it.
