Description:

The overall objective of the policy is to promote comprehensive development for children from pregnancy until 6 years old according to their needs and characteristics, with the ultimate view of improving equality in Colombia (in Spanish, the full name is “Política Pública
Nacional de Primera Infancia ‘Colombia por la primera infancia'”).

Among the specific objectives, it is foreseen that authorities shall promote the health, nutrition, and healthy environments of children. The policy recognizes that “Adequate food and nutrition in early childhood are…a determining factor in the neurological mechanisms that promote learning, health and favorable behavior throughout life”.
