Description:
General Overview
The Public Health Act consolidates Uganda’s laws on public health preservation. It covers infectious disease control, sanitation, vaccination, food-premises regulation. It also introduces provisions on non-communicable disease prevention (Part VIII). Therefore, it empowers the Minister to require other ministries, departments, and agencies to help prevent and control non-communicable diseases (Article 49).
Furthermore, the law establishes the Government must ensure access to basic medical services and health facilities to all the population (Article 84).
Regarding FULL purposes, the law brings the concept of food as the following:
- It defines “food” broadly as “any article used for food or drink other than drugs or water”. However, it includes ice, and any article which ordinarily enters into or is used in the composition or preparation of human food, and includes flavouring matters and condiments. It also states that “foodstuffs” has a similar meaning.
