Summary:
This regulation aims to control and carry out the corresponding health promotion of the manufacturing, import, and export process, as well as activities, services, and establishments related to food products and other goods.
Description:
This regulation contains provisions on the regulatory framework for the sanitary control of products and services to protect health. For FULL purposes, the regulation has an important highlight:
- The reference to the guidelines that producers of pre-packaged food and non-alcoholic beverages needs to follow. For example, what information they should contain, the exhibition area, characteristics for the use of nutritional signs, among others (Article 25).
In addition, in 2015, the front-of-pack nutritional labeling manual came into force. This manual incorporated the GDA model. For a description of this document see the section of “Supporting Details”.
The latest amendment to the regulation introduced and modified several key aspects on the sanitary control of products, including critical nutrients and front-of-package warning labels. Specifically, it contains a provision that states that prepackaged foods and non-alcoholic beverages that include front-of-package warning signs, must not feature characters appealing to children (Article 25 Bis 1). Additionally, it emphasized protecting children from ingredients, substances, or additives that may pose health risks (Article 25 Bis 3). These changes further strengthen consumer protection, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, by addressing both marketing practices and product safety concerns.
